Interestingness Drives Creativity.

I’ve noticed that many great creative ideas come from people who know how to harness their personal interests to different clients’ needs. They are drawn to, inspired by and eager to engage with what they find interesting. Interestingness drives creativity.

I think these quotes from creative people all support that notion while each one also adds a different facet to what interestingness is (and isn’t):

I really wanted, more than anything else, to contribute in some way to the culture that I was living in. It just seemed like a challenge to move it a little bit towards the way I thought it might be interesting to go. (David Bowie)

I don't view myself as a practitioner of a particular skill or method. I'm constantly looking at what's the most interesting problem that I could possibly work on. I really try to figure out what sort of scientist I need to be in order to solve the problem I'm interested in solving. (Erez Lieberman Aiden)

Every museum is full of nice things. That's the opposite of before. It was important things or serious things. Now we have interesting things. (Gerhard Richter)

Superman isn’t very interesting. But Clark Kent is a seven-course dinner of potential. (J. Ryan Stradal)

Thinking is more interesting than knowing, but less interesting than looking. (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)

Give me something interesting to play and I'm happy. (Morgan Freeman)

Modeling, for me, isn't about being beautiful but creating something interesting for people to look at and think about. (Kylie Bax)

Writers write these male stereotypes, and it makes it ten times more interesting if a woman says the lines. (Sigourney Weaver)

I always find beauty in things that are odd and imperfect - they are much more interesting. (MarcJacobs)

Tension is an interesting quality - and architecture must have it. There should be elements of the inexplicable, the mysterious, and the poetic in something that is perfectly rational. (Annabelle Selldorf)

You open a section of 'The New York Times,' and there's a review or a story on a choreographer or a dancer, and there's an informative, clear image of a dancer. This is, in my view, not an interesting photograph. (Mikhail  Baryshnikov)

Find me a man who's interesting enough to have dinner with and I'll be happy. (Lauren Bacall)
